Getting your Provisional Licence
You must be at least 17 years old to obtain a provisional car driving licence, but you can apply for it up to 3 months before your 17th birthday.
If you are receiving disability living allowance at the higher rate your provisional licence will come into effect when you are 16. As before, you can apply for it up to 3 months before your 16th birthday.
You will need to complete application form D1 (previously form D750) which you can get from the Post Office or www.dvla.gov.uk. The form also requires a passport sized photograph of the applicant. The completed form should be sent along with the appropriate fee and any necessary identification to: DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AD.
If you have a digital passport, which has both your photograph and signature on the same page, then you may not have to provide any identification other than your passport number. To confirm your requirements visit www.dvla.gov.uk
